3 Superfood Smoothie Ideas to Boost Your Metabolism

NEW YORK, July 26, 2016 /PRNewswire-iReach/

Summertime is smoothie time! Make the most out of summer smoothies by adding superfoods to fuel the body and boost the metabolism. Superfoods provide numerous health benefits due to their saturation of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. A variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds comprise the superfood category, many of which aide in boosting metabolism. Combine elements from each of the superfood families to create healthy, satisfying smoothies.

1.   Berry boost. Combine antioxidant-rich berries, such as blueberries, strawberries or raspberries, along with banana, skim milk and chia seeds for a fruity metabolism booster. Chia seeds are a valuable superfood and a great addition to smoothies—they are loaded with calcium, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. Add goji berries for additional protein, vitamins, and antioxidants.

2.   Veggie power. Leafy-green vegetables, like spinach and kale, make for a great source of amino acids, calcium, iron, zinc, and vitamins A and K. They are also full of antioxidants and fiber. Blend with almond milk, celery, apple, agave nectar and flax seed for a highly nutritious smoothie. Bananas also serve as a good addition to vegetable or fruit smoothies to create a thicker base.

3.   For the chocolate lover. Cacao is a metabolism-boosting superfood. Mix cacao powder with honey, water, banana and plain Greek yogurt for a superfood smoothie that tastes like a desert. Coconut oil and raw almond butter also work well with cacao smoothies and are both powerful superfoods.
